* Group Legal Adviser to Bovis plc, staff of 8 lawyers and 38 para legals dealing with all aspects of Bovis’ construction projects worldwide.

* Commercial General Manager to consortium of major oil companies operating in Iran producing 5 million bbl per day; responsible for all procurement, contracts and related admin and claims; budget of $1.5 billion per annum. * ‘Directeur Commerciale’ to Total Exploration & Production based in Paris; responsible for all Total’s commercial relations in the North Sea (relations with OSO etc.) including contracts for construction of the Alwyn field and related pipelines; also responsible for Total’s commercial activities in the Middle East including the development of the Upper Zakum field in Abu Dhabi.

* British National Oil Corporation (BNOC – subsequently Britoil). Recruited by former boss in Iran (ex Shell) as Commercial General Manger to re-structure and re-organise BNOC following Lord Kearton’s departure. Responsible for all contracts, procurement and finance (except treasury). Dealt with contracts for the Beatrice and Clyde fields and related pipelines and also the contract for the Ocean Alliance (the world’s largest drilling rig); heavily involved in the first Scottish privatisation, changing to Britoil and becoming a private company subsequently acquired by BP.

· Commercial legal consultant to several major Companies such as Brown & Root/Haliburton, Trafalgar House/ John Brown, Texaco, Gulf, etc mainly related to contract negotiations and claims adjustment/settlement.

* Recruited by Scottish Office as consultant on privatisation of the Scottish electricity industries with particular responsibility for Scottish Hydro-Electric; involved in the negotiation of the ‘structural’ contracts dealing with nuclear, coal, hydro and gas fired stations; stayed on as a consultant for 8 years dealing with contracts for the extension of Peterhead Power Station, sour gas contract from the Miller Field and two power stations, Keadby and Hallam and associated pipelines.

* Retained by Howden to negotiate the settlement of a very large dispute between them and the contractor (MTG) and the Danish Government relating to the flooding of the tunnels being bored from Halskov in Denmark to Jutland; successfully concluded negotiation in which Howden were paid £36m in compensation against a claim against them of £86m.

* Also acted as a consultant to a number of other companies, including Wood Group, where assistance was given mainly to the gas turbine division on a number of contractual matters and claims, including contract drafting etc.

*Currently, involved in the future of the water industries and the technology to provide safe drinking water in remote and unusual environments. Also taking a keen interest in the future energy requirements in the UK with the basic philosophy that the UK cannot risk being other than self sufficient in UK energy requirements and certainly not dependant upon unstable Eastern block sources where we are at the end of many thousands of miles of gas pipeline with unstable regimes off taking gas supplies before it reaches the UK.

* With in depth experience of all forms of generation (including Hydro, and some experience of wind turbine and tidal wave power – Bay of Fundy, Canada) it is felt that Scotland and the UK need a ‘balanced mix’ of generation capability which will provide secure indigenous power to meet (increasing) forecast requirements – but at the same time meeting emission limits by using ‘clean’ coal technology, modern, safe, state of the art nuclear and other generating technologies which will not entirely ruin scenic Scotland (i.e wind farms offshore).

*Health is good, and I seek some role in helping to develop a viable and realistic energy strategy which is capable of being put in place within the very severe time constraints now upon us – if we are to avoid the ‘lights going out’ in the frighteningly near future. My talent lies in my experience as an energy lawyer (with considerable technical knowledge) and in depth experience in drafting, adjusting and negotiating proposals, on a consensus basis, which will achieve the objective of self sufficient generation requirements for the future. Time is not on our side

* Languages: French (fluent) German (spoken) Arabic/Farsi (courtesies)
