Before coming to London in 2001, Kyle was an engineer and manager at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Kyle was instrumental in developing and implementing the highly acclaimed NASA-JSC Commercialization Model, used to transfer commercially viable space technologies from NASA labs to the marketplace. Previous to this, Kyle managed the development and deployment of payloads that flew on the space shuttle. He also did advanced planning on space stations, lunar cities and missions to Mars. His final assignment at NASA took him to Star City, Russia as a U.S. diplomat to Russia and the Deputy Director of Operations, Russia. He was responsible for implementation of the International Space Treaty and for looking after the US astronauts that fly on the International Space Station. In Houston, Kyle was also an Adjunct (part-time) Professor of Management at the University of Houston, specialising in new ways of doing business and self managing project teams. Telecommunications and computer technologies are fundamentally changing the business paradigm. In the past, often multiple layers of bureaucracy would complicate and slow down business activities, resulting in decreased competitiveness. Increasingly, self-managed, results-focused project teams are being used to organise and manage modern business activities. Kyle did research and trained students in this new paradigm at the University of Houston. In London, Kyle attended the prestigious Sloan Fellowship Programme at the London Business School. Since then, he has founded a consultancy to assist R&D organisations to commercialise their inventions. He has worked with numerous corporate and university clients, including The Open University and King’s College – London. Other adventures include singing in Carnegie Hall, a year of travel in Africa and the Middle East, running with the Hash House Harriers, and chef training at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute. Kyle currently lives on his narrowboat CEDAR, in west London (Brentford) on the Grand Union Canal. He can be reached at: kf @ fairchildinnovation.com, +44 (0)7916 146 322. |
